OFF THE RECORDS

context

Project created during the winter semester 204/25 in the typo/image/ layout course.

The theme for the winter semester 24/25 was objects. This meant that we had to form groups and find a suitable object. Possible objects included rings, belts, shoes, or even less common items such as wedding dresses. We decided on the broad topic of vinyl records and wanted to base our projects on this. This had to include a magazine and a one-page website.

We quickly decided that although we wanted to do a project about vinyl records, our focus would be on their development. In other words, we wanted to look at how today's generation interacts with and loves vinyl records.

magazine

When designing our magazine, it was extremely important to us to include loud pages as well as contrasting quiet pages. Our photographs, in combination with the typography, tend to become  loud very quickly. That's why we decided early on to use white space. On some pages more than others, to better create the effect of loud and quiet. We decided to use red as the primary color to catch the eye, which we balanced with other neutral colors and tones to create harmony.

website

The only requirement we were given for the website was that it should be a one-pager. So we decided to tell a story. First, we wanted to include an unboxing and types of vinyl section to ease people into the topic. Then we tried to reflect the different music categories as people and give people space to express their love of music on vinyl. The layout is the same for all the people, and at the end there is a summary of the people, music genres, and the theme.
